Why would I get someone to create my website for me when there are ways for me to do it myself?

There are many reasons to get someone else to do your website, just as there are reasons to do-it-yourself. In my opinion the main reason to do-it-yourself is if you have an understanding of website design.

In the 'for' column there are a number of reasons (and yes I believe there are more of these). In no particular order I would say that by getting a website designer/ business to create your website will save you a fair bit of time and energy. There is also a good chance it will result in a more 'productive' website – your website generating income for you. You should also get a website that will be visually appealing to your visitors, as well as being ranked higher in search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo etc Whilst advertising campaigns are a great way to promote your website, the vast majority of 'visitors' will find it through searching.

The person/ people who are working with you to create your new website should also be able to help you with obtaining a good domain name (though all the good ones may be taken) as well as having a website hosting company they use.

Lastly, let me give you an example of a 'made-at-home' website and one that has been created by a website design business.

What businesses can benefit from having a website?

This is a really important question to ask when considering getting a website for your business.

In this day-and-age the internet is a tool that is used by people every day to find anything and everything. It has gotten to the point of business people being confronted with the question of 'do you have a website?” which is followed up by a “why not?” if they don't.

If you are a B&B or Hotel/Motel your website can allow people to place their booking, and pay, online at a time that suits them; being a retailer is a tough industry, so why not give people the ability to browse through your product range from home, place their order online and have the items shipped out to them? Then of course there are tradies... what better advertising tool could their be than a website? You can now put up 'before & after' photos of work done; tell people why they should use you, instead of the bloke down the road, and enable people to request a quote for work while they relax at home. In all of these situations your website will be working for you while you are doing other important things.

So while I do think there are businesses out there who would get minimal benefit from having a website eg Dairy and Cattle Farmers I believe that most other businesses would get modest to massive benefits.
